HOW TO BOOK:

 

Call American call center 24/7 at (800) 433-7300. In case of a long hold you will be offered a call back option. Inform the operator you are booking a flight for a child. Remind them to waive your phone service fee since you are not able to make an UM booking online. 

 

WHAT WILL YOU NEED?

 

Before you call have the following information at hand:

 

1. Full name of the minor(s) travelling

2. DOB and gender of the minor

3. Flight details you want to book (ask operator to make sure the flight you selected is an eligible one for your child - e.g. no last connection of the day or connecting between different airlines).

4. Full name, phone # and address of the guardian on the arrival. (Sometimes they may ask for the guardian on the departure. Have both just in case). 

5. The credit /  debit card and billing address.

 

 

UM FEE: 

$150 + $11 tax each way per party of minors flying together (up to 9 minors)

Payable either with the booking or later at check-in. For roundtrips: there is no option to split the fee in two. You have to pay them both at once no matter if your do it by phone or in person at the airport.

 

GUARDIANS

The guardians are appointed by filling out the guardianship form at the airport. You can print and fill out this form at home. Link to form. Only guardians specified in your booking will be allowed to drop off / pick up the minor upon showing their ID. 

 

CHANGE / CANCEL

 

Change fee $200 per passenger (even if they are on the same booking)

No 24 hrs free refund grace period for flights booked 7 days or more in advance

(If these flights have to be changed American will waive the change fee)

24 hrs free hold if booking flights 6 days or less away (actually till 11:59 pm Houston time next day)

Refunds: UM refundable to cc. Airfare can be kept as credit for only the same passenger (minus $200 penalty) within one year from ticketing date.
