HOW TO BOOK:

 

OPTION 1

Go to www.united.com and book online. To be able to book for minors on their website you will have to sign in with your United Milage Plus (frequent flyer) account. You can open one -  it is free but takes a little extra time.  

 

OPTION 2

Call United call center 24/7 at (800) 864-8331 and book with an agent. $25 fee applies. You can try and ask them to please waive this fee since you are not able to accomplish the booking by yourself online. They have a separate number for online support 888.674.9559 (free of charge and often less hold time as regular 800#).

 

 

WHAT WILL YOU NEED?

 

Before you book have the following information at hand:

 

1. Full name of the minor(s) travelling

2. DOB and gender of the minor(s)

3. Flight details you want to book

4. Name, phone number and physical address of the person dropping the minor off.

5. Name, phone number and physical address of the person picking the minor up.

6. The credit or debit card and billing address.

 

 

YOUR OPTIONS:

 

UM FEE: $150 each way per party of minors flying together.

If booking online, UM fees are automatically added to your total. If you wish to pay it later at check-in, you have to call United.

You can prepay the fee for the outbound flight and pay the return fee later or vica versa. A great option when two parties split the cost of child's travel. 

 

GUARDIANS

Only guardians specified in your booking will be allowed to drop off / pick up the minor upon showing their ID. You may request to change these persons by calling Delta with your confirmation number at least 24 hours prior to departure.

 

GRACE PERIOD

You have 24 hours from the moment of booking to cancel your reservation for the full refund (it takes a few days to get the actual fund back on your account though). After that the ticket becomes nonrefundable and nontransferable. The change fee is $200 plus/minus difference in fare on the date of change.

5-15 y.o. nonstop only mandatory UM service

16-17 y.o. no UM service available. They fly as adults.

• Unaccompanied minors can only travel on nonstop flights operated by United or United Express®. United does not offer unaccompanied minor service to or from other airlines' flights. 

• Children younger than 5 years of age are not accepted as unaccompanied minors.

• Children 5 to 15 years of age who are traveling alone must use our unaccompanied minor service. A service charge will apply.

• Unaccompanied minor service is not available for children over age 15. Children ages 16 and 17 may travel alone on any United- or United Express-operated flights.
